Daith Piercing (and other cartilage) Healing – Week 1
This post is a follow-up to my daith piercing experience post. It’s been a week or so, and the healing journey has been rather interesting as these were my first piercings done by a professional piercer and these were my first non-lobe piercings.
Day of –
The piercer tells me to spray the ear (front and back) with saline mist spray (this kind) twice a day, and to blow dry after taking a shower so that the ears stay dry with exception for the saline mist spray. Do not twist the jewelry or mess around with the jewelry, just LITHA – leave it the hell alone.
My ear felt fine after both piercings, and I had no plans to shower that day. Since the piercer already put some stuff (perhaps the saline stuff) on my ears after I got pierced, I did the spray that evening before bed. The hardest part was figuring how the spray worked. Otherwise, it was simple. I sprayed it all over the daith piercing area and the faux rook/flat and then behind the ear so the spray touches the back of the flat piercing.
Some super diluted blood dripped to my lobes, perhaps from some dry blood from the piercing. I wiped that off, and it was fine.
Sleeping was a bit awkward. I was told I could leave my hair down, but just in case and to avoid any snag, I tied up part of my hair and slept in that so I wouldn’t roll over to the pierced ear side. Sleep itself was a bit difficult, but not too bad.
Day 1 –
I’ve decided I’ll spray the ears morning and evening. I got up and did stuff and then sprayed my ears. Then I took a photo, and it looked pretty good. It felt normal, not much soreness or anything. I tried so hard not to touch them.
Day 2 –
I noticed some more dried blood around the daith and some behind the flat piercing. The spray definitely helped with that. Tenderness started to appear as well, notably when touching part of the ear or putting a mask on and such. This was also a shower day! I was a bit scared, but it was ok. Took my shower normally and blew dry my hair and ears. The daith piercing kind of flipped up and down, but it didn’t feel any different. Blow drying took a while, so I need to me mindful of the longer shower / after shower routine.
Day 3 –
Started to notice some minor bruising, notably on the flat piercing and a bit around the daith piercing. It isn’t too visible or anything.
Day 4 –
Another shower day. It was a bit difficult to shower comfortably this day because some hair kept getting snagged in the back. The shower took longer than I’d like because I was being extra careful washing my hair.
Day 5 –
Continued with the saline mist spray twice a day and leaving the piercing alone. There were sometimes where I may have accidently tried to pick my ear to scratch it, but the piercings still look good. The itchiness was a bit more prominent this day, but it was manageable.
Day 6 –
The week has flown by! The ear doesn’t feel as tender as it did a few days ago, and the itchiness comes and goes. I noticed the flat piercing jewelry rotated a bit, so my guess is that the area was a bit swollen and it’s less swollen now hence, the movement. Either that or something got loose… we shall see.
Week 1 Daith Piercing Healing Recap
It wasn’t bad! I followed instructions and did whatever I normally do. It’s a great excuse not to go into the pool, LOL. No keloids or irritation bumps yet, but perhaps it’s a bit early for that. Fingers crossed this daith piercing healing journey remains a smooth one! If/when it’s fully healed, I’d love to put in that small amity ring I’ve been eyeing and getting some bling for a conch piercing. That’ll look so good! Though I’d like the next piercing on this ear be something to even out the spacing here, so somewhere along the helix. I know I’ve mentioned the jewelry I liked for that spot wasn’t compatible with my ear anatomy, so now I’ll consider something smaller if that would work.
