LV Sarah Wallet – liquid courage at its finest

My goodness… it just happened so fast! It took less than a minute to add to cart and to check out, and the order was processed super quickly! My mind and fingers were on auto-mode or something, and before I was in a well stage to comprehend what just happened, a Louis Vuitton Sarah Wallet in Monogram, with Fuchsia Interior was on its way to my door.

Quick Notes –

  • Great size wallet with lots of room for cards, notes/receipts, and more
  • Can be used as a clutch if preferred (convenient)
  • Expensive!

The Story –

I fell in love with a Louis Vuitton monogram zippy wallet in lavender with vernis leather around seven years ago. I loved how the material felt. It was shiny, and everything other than the price was just so amazing. I fiddled with the wallet for quite some time, trying out the zipper, being so amazed with how well it handled. It was such a smooth zipper and the quality of the wallet was astonishing. But I was in my early 20s, and spending $900 for a wallet was undoable without going into debt; unjustifiable, as I was pregnant with my second child at the time. Little did I know, it was a seasonal/limited-edition color, and it was quickly discontinued afterwards.

I was a bit sad after I left the store, but was glad I had the self-control not to fork over my credit card. I walked over to Tory Burch after leaving Louis Vuitton, and looked around their small sale section. They also had a variety of wallets, including designs very similar to Louis Vuitton’s zippy wallets. I picked up a pink Robinson textured leather wallet as well as a black wallet, and they both felt good to the touch. The pink one had a small gold Tory Burch logo on the upper center of the wallet, and the black one had a much larger Tory Burch logo on the center of the wallet. I was looking for a wallet anyway, and eventually went with the pink (a worker there said it was “Prada leather,” which I mentioned in a review on the Tory Burch website, but it ultimately got rejected for not meeting their guidelines) due to the interior zipper. It had a small Tory Burch logo, and the interior zipper of the black one was just a metal bar. I really appreciate the small details!

I went on to use that wallet for the next seven years. It still feels sturdy, but recently I decided I was ready for a change. I actually bought a monogram zippy wallet on a whim a few years ago after receiving a Christmas bonus, but for whatever reason I kept that wallet in its box (practically gave it to my mom since I left it there) and continued using my Tory Burch wallet. But once it had accumulated more cards than could comfortably fit inside, I started looking for something a bit more versatile. And so, after drinking more wine than I should one night, I splurged and treated myself to a Sarah wallet. I was amazed at how quickly they processed and shipped my  order; it was already processed and shipped when I checked my phone the next morning!

The wallet came packaged in a dustbag inside a Louis Vuitton box. The wallet felt great to the touch as expected, although the material seemed a bit thinner than I remembered from looking at Sarah wallets at a Louis Vuitton store a while back. Nonetheless, it was beautiful. There were quite a few interior color options to choose from (brown, fuschia, rose ballerina, and poppy), and I went with the fuschia one because it looked great against their monogram print; professional-ish on the outside, bright and colorful on the inside.

The wallet has 4 slots for cards that are immediately accessible after unbuttoning the flap, and 12 more card slots deeper inside (6 on each side). There’s a zippered middle area, perfect for storing coins or other flat items, and a pocket directly on the front side of the zippered middle section. You might be able to fit a checkbook in there, but so far I’ve used that pocket for random receipts and some blank checks. It’s also perfect for some bills, in case you want to separate lower valued bills from higher valued bills. Behind the rear 6 card slots is a space for bills or anything that can fit similar to bills. I particularly appreciate the pocket for bills etc. on the exterior of the wallet. Yay, additional storage for whenever I don’t feel like opening the wallet. The only drawback is that I’m worried the outer pocket might stretch, warping the shape of the back.

It was a bit difficult for me to place my cards in the slots the first time, but I am sure it will become easier with use. The wallet looks great with all my stuff in there, and it has a nice thickness and heft now that I’ve filled it up. It’s also quicker to unbutton the flap compared to unzipping my old wallet, and if the Sarah bulges out in any way, it looks more natural than a bulge in a zippy wallet.

This is one of my more indulgent purchases in recent memory ($720!), but it was money well spent, as I can already see myself using this wallet for many years to come (or maybe that’s just self-justification for the purchase).
