Everyplate – The Cheaper Hello Fresh

I tried another meal kit subscription service, all thanks to Ibotta again. This time it’s Everyplate, and it’s really the cheaper version of Hello Fresh. Here’s my Everyplate review!

Let’s Get the Awkward Part Out of the Way

Everyplate is the cheaper version of Hello Fresh – $4.99 a serving, so 4 meals a week is under $50 with shipping included. Not bad!! That’s at full price, so it’s a bit cheaper the first few deliveries when the discounts take place. I think these are some reasons why Everyplate is cheaper, and is also a part of Hello Fresh –

  •  The veggies that are individually packaged as the above photo suck, and some of its packaging actually says “Hello Fresh” on the packaging.
  • The ingredients are similar-ish quality, but Everyplate may have some crushed items. A pepper and a tomato came crushed in my first delivery.
  • Hello Fresh would package the ingredients consolidated by recipe, so it’s easy. Everyplate dumps all the ingredients in a box, so you can either pick the ingredients within the recipe at the time or organize them yourself.
  • Everyplate’s delivery dates are limited – I got to choose either Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. Nothing else. Darn!
Below are some meal pics to share. I’ve had around 3 weeks of Everyplate!
Spiced Chickpea Basmati Bowl with Tomato Cucumber Feta Salad & Creamy Lemon Sauce - not bad! Could use some chicken or something, but the dish itself was pretty flavorful. I do enjoy some chickpeas.
Black Bean & Pepperjack tostadas with Southwest Lime Crema & Spicy Pico de Gallo - this one was rather interesting. The beans were surprisingly good, especially with the cheese and the sauce. The tortillas weren't special though. Perhaps they should have been heated / toasted more since it lacked the crunch. These were more like tacos.
Mashed Potato-Smothered Meatloaf with Roasted Brussels Sprouts & Caramelized Onion Gravy - this was probably my favorite Everyplate meal out of the ones I've tried so far. The meatloaf with the Brussels Sprouts were good and it got me full in comparison with the other ones. Good flavor, especially with the gravy!
Couscous-Stuffed Delicata Squash with Brussels Sprouts, Cranberries & Parmesan - LOL, the husband did not enjoy this one at all because it's too much squash. I really enjoyed the Brussels part, but did not enjoy the cranberries. It was alright, but I feel it'll be more enjoyable if we enjoyed squash more. Was good to try though.
Chicken & Green Bell Pepper Fajitas with Pico de Gallo & Lime Crema - this was probably one of the more "boring" dishes since the husband makes his own kind of fajitas that tastes so much better. We made a side of guac for this that enhanced it a bit. The flavors were OK, but there wasn't enough filling to tortillas in my opinion.
Sweet 'N' Tangy Cherry Meatballs with Roasted Zucchini & Garlic Mashed Potatoes - the mealballs were pretty good! The cherry jam glaze was surpringly good and went well with the meat and the potatoes.
Cheese-Tastic Southwestern Hash with Peppers, Sour Cream & a Fried Egg - nope, Everyplate does not actually provide the egg. It's in the "what you'll need" section. Hello Fresh would provide the egg though. This dish was alright, but could have used a lot more cheese!
Southwest Pork Flautas with Zesty Crema & Pico de Gallo - Similar to the other dishes with tortillas, the ratio of filling to tortillas isn't great. I prefer a lot of stuff and little tortilla, and there was just too much tortilla in my opinion. The filling was good though, so there's that tasty aspect.
Herby Pork Chops in Tomato Cream Sauce with Lemon Couscous & Zucchini Rounds - looks worse than it tastes. The sauce on top of the pork chops look so unappetizing, but it wasn't bad. Pretty standard.
Sweet Chili Chicken with Scallion Rice & Zesty Carrots - the chicken was rather bland without the sauce, but the rest of it was good. I'm not really a fan of rice (ate that everyday growing up and got sick of it), but this one wasn't bad. there was some flavor to it, so it was better than plain white rice.
Gravy-Smothered Pork Chops with Buttermilk Biscuits & Roasted Carrots - the biscuits are packaged ones that gets baked in the oven, so nothing special about those. The pork chop with gravy was good, and the carrots were good as well. Well rounded dish, but the biscuits needed a lot of gravy or something else to un-bland them.
Homestyle BBQ Meatloaves with Zucchini & Brown Butter Mashed Sweet Potatoes - this was pretty good, except for that the husband and I aren't really fan osf mashed sweet potatoes! The serving of the meatloaf seemed very small too, since we didn't get full of this one at all. I'm pretty sure we ate a sandwich after this meal.

Everyplate Review – Overall

It’s still cheaper getting ingredients on your own for these recipes, but the recipe cards and convenience make Everyplate worth it. Everyplate doesn’t seem to cater to dietary restrictions as well as Hello Fresh and pricier meal kits though. The price for number of meals work out for us, so this is the one that we’ve been using longer than the “trial period” and I can see us using Everyplate for quite sometime, assuming that the price doesn’t really increase anytime soon!
