Trader Joe’s Peanut Butter Cocoa Marshmallows – Subtle, but Sweet!

Another Trader Joe’s review from me. I enjoy some marshmallows, and Trader Joe’s peanut butter marshmallows caught my eye as they were placed nearby checkout.

What Are TJ’s Peanut Butter Cocoa Marshmallows?

These peanut butter marshmallows are described as, “cocoa marshmallows in a peanut butter coating with a chocolatey drizzle.” I’ve previously tried TJ’s s’mores marshmallows and dark chocolate coated marshmallows before, and those were pretty good so I had to try these. The packaging is very different than their previous (or Christmastime) marshmallows, as these are in somewhat of a large-ish bag as opposed to a small plastic container.

Packaging and Nutrition

Nice bag packaging, but definitely squish-able. Easy to open, and hope the re-seal portion doesn’t get busted.

There are around 18 pieces of these peanut butter coated marshmallows in a bag (about 6 servings, 3 pieces per serving). Three pieces of these contain 130 Calories with a good chunk of added sugar. It seems that these are made in places that also handle other allergens, such as egg, wheat, almond, cashew, coconut, and pecan. These peanut butter marshmallows contain soy, milk, and peanut.

Image on Packaging Looks Better, Of Course

They don’t look that bad in comparison to the image, but the texture and color looks pretty off. It shouldn’t really change the taste though, as these are still considered fresh, or at least not expired. The look is a bit disappointing, and I just realized why these are placed in bags instead of their clear containers as they put their s’mores marshmallows in.

Taste and Texture

I think I’d enjoy these a bit more if it was more of a vanilla or a honey marshmallow as opposed to the cocoa. Chocolate and peanut butter is a common combination, and the idea of a peanut butter chocolate with marshmallow is great, but the cocoa doesn’t contribute much to these. I taste the peanut butter and the marshmallow, but the cocoa/chocolate portion is a bit hidden. The actual marshmallow portion was lacking something that great marshmallows contain, but perhaps I’m just not a fan of the cocoa powder or whatever used within the marshmallows. The cocoa took more away from the marshmallow in my opinion, but these aren’t terrible. I enjoyed them, but they aren’t my top choice in coated marshmallows. Texture was alright, nothing much to rave about. The overall texture is softer than say… See’s Candies chocolate with the marshmallows.

Worth It?

$4 a bag of these, around 18 marshmallows in the bag, so that’s around a quarter each considering taxes and whatnot. That’s pretty good, especially since chocolate shops charge over a dollar for these things. Some may even charge over $3 for a single piece of chocolate! Price is good and they aren’t terrible. If you enjoy peanut butter, but not too much peanut butter, you may enjoy these, assuming you like marshmallow as well.
