AmEx Platinum Hotel Collection $100 On-site Credit at the Venetian in Vegas!

I’ve been an AmEx Platinum member for just about 4 months, and I signed up because my brother recommended it. He wants to go to Japan to see cherry blossoms, enjoy some good food, and do some shopping and asked if I was interested in traveling with him. I said sure, so we’ll plan for our trip for next year or so, but beforehand, I’d like to learn some Japanese so I can get by just a bit without relying on translators, etc. ANYWAYS, no foreign transaction fees with AmEx platinum and it’s such a great card for traveling. That plus other perks got me to sign up.

Much Better Sign-Up Offer

It’s $80K extra points currently to sign up with a $6K spend during the first 6 months. I got mine at their max that I know of at $150K extra points with the same spend, which I did within the first couple months (thank you work trip since plane tickets and hotel were not cheap LOL). Hold off for a better sign up offer or for a referral link for a better offer unless you don’t care too much about that may points.

Trip to Vegas

We stayed at the Venetian in Vegas during our prior trip and I got the 2 night stay from booking via AmEx with my AmEx platinum. It’d get me a room upgrade if available, early check-in/late check-out if available and depending on the property, and some onsite credits.

Venetian The Hotel Collection Letter - lets you know where you can spend the $100 onsite credit on, including specific restaurants.

Room Upgrades

I checked in online early, and our room was ready just a bit before 11AM, which was perfect because my flight landed around 10:30AM, so my friends picked me up from the airport and we headed straight to the hotel to check in as opposed to bumming around somewhere for hours before official check-in time. There is a downfall to early check in, which is there may not be upgrades available since they are still tidying up other rooms, but we didn’t care. We just wanted to be in our suite ASAP! I’ve heard other Vegas property upgrades include suites, but since Venetian rooms are all suites anyways, the upgrade would have been a better view. It’s not like we’re going to be looking out the window most our trip, so we rather get into our room sooner than wait until they had a better view suite available.

Credits

Upon checking in, they went to the back to get me a letter. This happens when booking through Amex using the Amex card. The letter specifies where the $100 credit can be used. They say to charge it to your room and they take $100 off. It can be used a bit here and there or all at once. Pretty neat! We used ours right away for lunch at Yardbird!

Smoked Salmon Avocado Toast, Lewellyn’s Fine Fried Chicken, Mini Beignets

Checking Out

Simple process as we used the kiosk. The only charges on the bill were the resort fees (ughhhh!!!) and our Yardbird lunch less $100. Not bad. Everything else was pre-paid, and the $200 credit on my statement showed up pretty quickly.

More Expensive than Booking Directly?

Yes and no. Vegas is one of the places that makes booking directly on AmEx more worth it than other places because the hotel prices are usually around the same unless you have major discounts by being a member with the specific properties and such. The one time $200 makes it worth it to book at least once. The food credit or onsite credit lasts for each trip so that if you book a 5 night stay vs. a 2 night stay, the $100 credit is still $100. If you book a couple days here and another couple days next time, then you’d get the $100 credit both trips, assuming there’s no blockage or suspicion of you booking short trips or a bunch of check in check outs to keep getting that credit.

Other Platinum Credits

The ones I’ve used so far are the entertainment credit, Saks credit, priority pass access, Delta lounge, TSA pre-check, and some others. Below are some images of their benefits and captioning my thoughts. There are more, but these are the easy to find ones that display right on their site.

$200 Hotel Credit - once a year, book via the AmEx portal. Thinking about using this at the Cosmopolitan this year! Hoping for an amazing upgrade and credits. $200 Airline Credit - Mine was stuck at United since I traveled for work using United. Basically this credit is you have to choose one selected airline and it will cover up to $200 a year on such such as baggage check-in and other lil things like that. I think you can change which airline each year. $200 Uber Cash - Load your platinum card on Uber and each month you’ll get $15 credit, plus a $20 bonus in December. I’ve been using mine on takeout via Uber Eats. $189 CLEAR Credit - I didn’t use this, but did do the TSA pre-check one instead.
$155 Walmart+ Credit - I DO NOT SHOP AT WALMART so I don’t use this one, but probably should because they do Paramount+ or something and there might be something worth streaming? $240 Digital Entertainment Credit - Basically they’d reimburse $20 a month on streaming services, selected ones though, such as Hulu, Peacock, etc. If you do add-ons to Hulu’s basic package and the statement still shows up as Hulu for the total cost, then they’d give back up to $20 for that. I recently added on HBO Max so it better show up as Hulu on my statement instead of HBO Max separately as I did add it on via Hulu! $300 Equinox Credit and SoulCycle At-Home Bike Credit - Nope, not using the bike credit. No room and the bike is so expensive. Shop Saks with Platinum - $50 Saks credit every 6 months with purchase. Guess what? Amex got me starting shopping at Saks, LOL. So far I bought Le Creusets and my experience sucked. Then I bought some sale jeans and slides. Thank goodness for credits and sales.
Darn good art!! I love this design. Hopefully the design doesn’t go away or I get to choose my replacement card design when that time comes.
