Nail Adventures & Kiara Sky Beyond Home LED Lamp & Gel Polish Review

Getting your nails done professionally can be rather pricey, and it’s not really worth it if the polish doesn’t stick to your nails for as long as you’d like. I loved the feel of gel polish, so I went ahead and bought a Kiara Sky LED lamp and gel polish set to try.

My Kiara Sky Items

I don’t see the exact bundle on their website anymore, but this is the LED lamp that my bundle came with. It also came with some nail buffers and a gel polish set. The bundle was called burgundy, and the colors go around the burgundy theme – a rich brownish red aka burgundy, a pink, and a golden glitter. Top coat was also included. I also purchased 2 separate colors – a purple/lavender to light gray ombre gel polish and a black gel polish.

Kiara Sky Packaging

It’s pretty cute packaging. Their LED lamp is a good size – very portable and comes in a beautiful secure box. There is a pull and then a cover, and the lamp and the power cord is in there. Their polishes come in a box with dividers. The box can fit up to 4 polishes in there. One pack was full of 4 polishes and the other pack had my other 2 polishes.

Kiara Sky LED Lamp and Gel Polish Instructions

Pretty simple. What I did was –

  1. Select the gel polish colors I want my nails to be and the top coat.
  2. Plug in the LED lamp. It motion detects and will turn on when you put your hand underneath and will turn off automatically after the cure.
  3. Paint my nails with the colors on one hand as usual. No change from regular polish.
  4. Put that hand under the lamp and cure the polish once. If it’s a very hot day, then I might cure for 2 rounds.
  5. Put the top coat over the cured polish on the nails.
  6. Cure again.
  7. Repeat steps 3 – 6 for the other hand.

How It Went

It was pretty good! I loved the not waiting as long as regular polish portion since it’s automatically dry after curing. The gel polish lasts as long as the times I got them done at salons. My nails don’t hold polish so well such that I’ve had lifting and peeling within just a day or 2 after getting them done, so it’s really not worth it for me to go spend a lot of money to get my nails done. This wasn’t just from one place or region… it was from every spot I tried gel nail polish. Ugh!

How it Felt

The first time was painless. I ended up peeling it all off, damaging my nails a couple/few days afterwards though. I tried again sometime after and I guess with some cuts and nail thinnage, it burned a bit under the LED lamp. It didn’t burn as much as some dip nail application on thinner nails, but there was some discomfort.

Many Nail Options

Kiara Sky is the first gel polish and LED lamp that I’ve bought. I’ve had many regular polishes before this, but I continue to use those more so than these gel polishes because I’m still unsure how I feel about placing my hands under all that light multiple times. I’ve also tried Apres GelX nails, which seems similar to Kiara Sky’s gelly tips where you put on some primer/bonder and the fake nail on top of your real nail and cure that with LED light and then polish your nails. I heard of GelX first, and it seems extremely professional since licensed professionals are listed in their “directory.” GelX nails are rather pricey at salons and I’m super curious in trying because it’d be nice not to have any lifting in 3 weeks (or more than 1 week in my situation), but wow… so expensive, especially with nail art! Anyways, I digress…

Final Comments re Kiara Sky

I’m rather happy with my LED lamp. It’s nice to find some time to myself and listen to something (currently The Office Ladies podcast) while doing my own nails. Kiara Sky’s gel polish is also nice, but a bit pricey. I do want a lot more of their colors though! Nail polish is just so addictive.
