Momofuku’s Sweet & Spicy Pack Did Not Disappoint!
Guess what? My bestie sent me a Momofuku sweet & spicy pack!! I own the Momofuku cookbooks and tried some of David Chang’s restaurants, but it’s been a while… I think I’ll try his Vegas spot in a week or so. Anyways, this was a complete surprise, especially since this month has been insanely busy at work. Think 16+ hour days, even on the weekends, so any chance of taking a break, including creating this post, and nice/generous gestures, I super appreciate.
What’s in the Pack
Sweet & Spicy Noodles – a blend of Korean chili paste, sesame oil, and soy sauce that creates a perfect balance of sweet and heat.
Chili Crunch – a spicy-crunchy chili oil that adds a perfect punch of heat and texture to your favorite dishes. It’s a classic for a reason.
Hot Honey – a combination of our cult-favorite spicy-crunchy chili oil with premium wildflower honey to create the ultimate union of heat and sweet.
Chili Chocolate Crunch — a shockingly delicious chocolate infused with chilis and garlic, filled with crispy puffed quinoa, and topped with pink sea salt and sesame seeds.
Miso Potato Chip — a salty and sweet combo with the transcendent flavor of chickpea miso and dark chocolate with the crispy crunch of crushed potato chips.
White Chocolate Crispy Rice — a treasure trove of everything good: smooth, creamy, vegan coconut white chocolate filled with crispy, crunchy rice puffs and crushed waffle cones.
Let’s Try Some Noodles!
The pack came with a pack of sweet & spicy noodles, pantry staples of chili crunch and hot honey. I can’t wait to dig in! Some fried chicken and some hot honey… mmmm!!! Definitely need to get some fried chicken later this week. Unfortunately I have lunch and dinner plans today, so no fried chicken for me today. There is also a box of 3 chocolate bars from their collab with Raaka chocolate. The flavors sound great, and I can’t wait to dig into those as well but I’ll be focusing on the NOODLES and chili crunch today.
How do you like your Noodles?
Al dente? Then cook these at the recommended 3 mins or so. Do you prefer them softer? Leave them in for a bit longer. Firmer? I like mine firmer, but I’d like to try how these are supposed to be as well, so I cooked them at the recommended 3 mins… well, more like 2.5 and then I turned off the heat and let them sit for 30 more seconds before I strained them.
Momofuku Noodles Review
Sweet & spicy? Instant noodles have so much damn salt, and these contain close to half your recommended sodium intake… which isn’t as bad as other instant noodles! I tried some before adding the chili crunch, and it was pretty good. Great texture on the noodles, and there was a subtle hint of sweet and spicy, but more toward the sweet side. Most likely this is because I have trouble tasting some spice unless there is quite a bit in there. I added the chili crunch and it made it so much better! I tasted the spice, and the chili gave it awesome texture. It did taste like those chili flakes that you put on pizza at first, but after letting it sit for a while and mixing it all in, it was amazing.
Chili Crunch Spice
I loved it. Added the necessary heat to those that have a higher spice tolerance. The serving of noodles was alright – might need 2 or 3 for a full meal with this alone, but it was a good serving for a small breakfast and having other dishes. My son tried a piece and he ended up drinking a whole cup of milk and still tasted the spice. To his defense, I did add quite a bit of the chili crunch! Perhaps I finished it too fast and misestimated the serving size, but that was because it was pretty good! Also I was hungry… need my breakfast!
How Does it Compare to the Restaurant’s Noodles?
I have no idea… I haven’t had these noodles at a Momofuku restaurant before. When I lived around DC, there was a Momofuku Ramen that I tried, and perhaps they were working out some kinks during soft opening, but I enjoyed these noodles with chili crunch more.
The Chocolate
I’ll share some photos of the chocolate bars that were included as well. Enjoy! I sure will.
