Orangetheory – Almost 1 Month Update – Barely Anymore Red Zone, but Injured!

I took my intro Orangetheory class almost a month ago, and wanted to share how things have been since that class.

Heart Rate Monitor Adjustment

My earlier classes had quite a bit of minutes in the red zone, and it supposedly takes 5 – 20+ classes for it to adjust to you. Mine seems to have adjusted rather quickly because classes I took in April barely had any of my minutes in the red zone!

Too Hard, Too Soon -> Hurt Feet, Need Break

I haven’t done any jogging or running (other than catching the train after work) in over a decade, and immediately started jogging/running on the treadmills at Orangetheory. If there were decent thread blocks in class, I’d hit 2 – 2.5 miles consistently. I was like oh yeah I can definitely do this, but ended up hurting my feet that it hurt so much to walk. The sides of my feet and any pressure put started to hurt such that it hurt LESS wearing heels at work.

First week of April class - decent blocks in class, didn’t hit any red zone despite my running. Different from first week, so heart rate monitor has been adjusting to me.
Went again a couple days afterwards, and still zero in the red zone. Will take a lot for me to get here, huh?
One of the last classes that I actually jogged/ran on the treadmill through the tread block. My feet did hurt, but I really effed it up afterwards when it started to hurt so much.
Started the tread block with jogging/running, but after 30secs - 1 min, I knew I couldn’t, so I power walked the rest of the tread block. No more running for me until my feet feel better.

Gaining Muscle (and weight)

I can see some definition in my arms when I flex now! So awesome!!! If only I can gain some around my wrists to wear normal size bracelets, but there I am wishing too much again. I probably gained 5 pounds this past month, officially putting me around 10 pounds over the weight I say on my drivers license. Yay to muscle!! Hopefully I don’t lose it any time soon and that I don’t injure myself when doing the floor block in class and such.

Giving My Feet Some Rest

I will need to take it easy for most of April. Hopefully I’ll be able to run in May because I hear they are doing the timed mile on the treads some time in May. Please let it be closer to the end of May! By then, my feet must be healed, right? I’ll be so disappointed in myself if my feet don’t heal any time soon. SIGH… always take it easy at first… my bad.

If My Feet are Broken

The good news: they’re broken at the same spots on each foot, so my feet are still mirrored/symmetrical to that extent.

The bad news: broken.
