My First Pair of Hoka Shoes – They’re Naturally Wide?
My Nike Pegasus shoes were getting old and my On Cloudrunners started to smell a bit, so that’s when I decided I needed another pair of shoes to add to my rotation. I’ve been seeing a lot of Brooks running shoes and a lot of Hoka shoes everywhere in the Bay Area, but I haven’t had the chance to try those shoes until now.
Lucky Mom
There were some Brooks Ghost 14 shoes on sale on their website a couple months ago, and based on their shoe size assistant thingy, I needed to size up. Bought a 7, shoes came quickly, but they were a bit too big. Showed them to my mom and she gladly took them. There wasn’t much support with those shoes, so I decided to try Hoka shoes as opposed to buying a full price Brooks shoes. Hoka shoe finder online had some questions and I answered them. I wasn’t sure how to answer a question so I took it twice, and each gave me a different shoe rec – the Solimar ($125) and the Arahi ($140). I bought them both. Shipping was really fast, but I must have messed up in ordering because the Arahi shoes came in 6.5W, and they were comfy, but big on me. My mom is a 7 and they somehow fit perfectly on her, so congrats, my mom got another pair of new shoes.
Well Known Brand
A bunch of people in my area wear Hoka shoes, and a couple friends that I was with on our Seattle trip wore them as well. They both said something along the lines of the most comfortable shoes they’ve wore and cannot go back to other brands, especially when it comes to being on your feet all day and such.
The Arahi Shoes
The accidental 6.5W shoes I got were in black and I was going to use them to work out as well as for long walks. They are now my mom’s shoes, and she uses them to go on her walks. She completely ditched her prior pair of walking shoes and now switches up between those Arahi Hoka shoes and Ghost 14 Brooks running shoes. Mom has better shoes than me!
Arahi Shoes – Worth the $140?
Yeah, if they last long enough! The comfort is definitely there, especially with the balanced cushion. I’d be ordering another pair (in the correct size this time), but cannot quite justify another $140 + tax just then. The black shoes looked amazing and they felt great with exception to the inner bottom part on the side which I’d need to either adjust or get used to. My mom loves them, so that’s a win right there!
The Shoes I Ordered at the Correct Size – Solimar
Got the Solimar Hoka shoes – cheaper at $125 compared to $140, and the size was correct this time – 6.5 regular. I chose the pink shoes with the black accent, but wasn’t too fond of the bottom part being white, but they are still nice! My regular go to shoe color is black with some kind of pink or lavender accent (like my Nikes) unless there is some sort of deal and stock dependent.
Tried the Hoka Solimar Shoes for the First Time!
The regular 6.5 fit a lot better than the 6.5 Wide size, but they were still a bit wider than other normal 6.5 shoes I’ve gotten. Are Hoka shoes just naturally wider? I’m not sure if it’s favorable to have my feet move naturally in there as much, but they are comfortable. They aren’t as supportive as my On Cloudrunner shoes, but I was able to complete an OTF workout in them the first time I tried these shoes, so I’m happy with them!
More Hoka Shoes?
Hopefully my Solimar Hoka shoes will last a good while and not get stinky any time soon. I do want to try other Hoka shoe styles as well as branch out to try other brands. Truthfully, I should be going to a store to try these shoes on in person, but ughhh… the introvertedness and laziness in me definitely prevents that for now.
