Trader Joe’s Chantilly Cream Vanilla Bean Mini Sheet Cake

The Product

Trader Joe’s has a mini sheet cake that is pretty good. They call it their Chantilly Cream Vanilla Bean Mini Sheet Cake, with a description of, “Moist, flavorful cake with a smooth vanilla bean buttercream frosting.” This cake (as of right now at my local Trader Joe’s) is just under $5. Trader Joe’s “Chantilly” Cream Vanilla Bean mini sheet cake contains 6 servings, each serving having 340 Calories, with 19 grams of fat, 43 grams of carbohydrates, and 2 grams of protein. It’s a rather rich product considering the size and nutrition facts.

Packaging

This mini sheet cake packaging isn’t as cute as their Vegan Vanilla Cupcakes packaging. It comes in a rounded rectangular container, similar to some takeout containers, with a orange-pink/salmon and yellow colored label.

Texture

I think of extra fluffy and flavorful whipped cream whenever chantilly cream comes up. I’ve had it with some breakfast and brunch dishes, and it was just so good. It’s a sweeter whipped cream that’s light and dense, but fluffy at the same time. It was disappointing that this cake is nothing like chantilly, other than the vanilla bean flavor of some vanilla chantilly creams. The frosting is a buttercream that is surprisingly excellent in taste. I find most frostings to be way too sweet without much flavor, but this vanilla bean buttercream frosting was really good. It was rather sweet, but I kept eating it because the flavor was pretty good. The cake itself was moist indeed and went well with the cream, and also alone.

Taste

The texture of the cake was good, and the taste was good as well. It doesn’t look as appetizing from the package and from the slice, so it tastes better than it looks. It also tastes better than their vegan vanilla cupcakes in my opinion, but this cake appears to have more ingredients. The vanilla flavor shone through, which is very appreciated. It’s one of those small, but dangerous cakes since one serving just doesn’t seem enough, and it requires quite a bit of self control not to have more. Thank goodness if there are people around to share with though!

Buy Again?

Sure, I’d get this again. It’s convenient since I shop at TJ’s on around a weekly basis. The kids really liked it too, and I wouldn’t have to worry about eating the whole thing in a day since I have people to share the cake with. Specialty cakes are rather pricey, and this TJ’s mini sheet cake (they also have a chocolate ganache one!) serves a small group of people for an excellent price.
