I’ve Switched to Lush Shampoo and Conditioner – Will this be a Permanent Switch?
Wow, a new month has started already, and I’ve accomplished nearly nothing productive. Work has taken a huge part of my time and any spare moment I have for myself, I use it to chill, notably watching food-related shows, such as Tournament of Champions. So super happy that a new Top Chef season is coming up this month and super hoping I’ll have time to watch each week there is a new episode.
Now Onto the Lush Stuff
ANYWAYS, I’ve been an on and off customer at Lush for over a decade. Traditional retail store shampoos and conditioners haven’t been doing much for my hair, and I’ve been trying various more high end stuff for a while, mostly back when I had colored hair. Turns out I am just super lazy about hair care and won’t want to do more than shampoo, conditioner, and blow dry. There are a bunch of Lush shampoos and conditioners I’ve tried, and I think I’ve settled on my Lush Shampoo and Conditioner!
Beyond the Hair Quiz
Lush has a hair quiz that suggests products based on what you’re looking for re your hair. They suggested their Jumping Juniper shampoo bar, Veganese conditioner, and Sea Spray volumizing hair mist. I’ve tried these in the past and some others, and they were a pass for me. Here are my quick thoughts on the items –
- Jumping Juniper – A Lush shampoo bar. Supposedly lasts for many shampoos and it’s great for the environment because there isn’t the plastic or whatever packaging. I tried to make this work, but couldn’t. It didn’t add anything to my hair and it felt that I didn’t even wash my hair. Pass for me.
- Veganese – A supposedly popular Lush conditioner. The smell was supposed to be great, but I couldn’t get into it. Also didn’t really did what I wanted it to for my hair that other conditioners didn’t offer.
- Sea Spray – OK, I did want some volume in my hair, but couldn’t get into this product because I was lazy. Also the feel of the salt in there when dried up wasn’t pleasant as well.
Other Suggested Hair Products from Lush I’ve Tried
- Big – I love these types of containers, and exchange for a free face mask (I don’t know why I even bother since I don’t use face masks, but I guess I just like the incentive) when giving 5 clean containers back. This shampoo contains sea salt and it’s good for smoothing and volumizing hair. The smell bothered me and it didn’t really do much volumizing to my hair. The salt can be a bit abrasive. Pass for me.
- Another Shampoo Bar – was for Sensitive scalps, but I don’t see on Lush’s site right now. It was good at first, but afterwards, it seems that it just stuck to my hair which really bothered me. Bleh!
- American Cream – Smells pretty good while using it, but it didn’t really do the conditioning unless I use more than usual of this conditioner. It seemed to be a waste to me for that reason.
The Shampoo that Did Work
Wasabi Shan Kui – shampoo with wasabi, menthol, and caffeine! I really like how this one smells, and it didn’t cause any irritation to my scalp after using it. The gamble of buying one of the medium sizes paid off in this cases! I’ve used it for about a month now, and I hope my hair/scalp won’t end up disliking it afterwards. If it does, I guess I’ll try yet another shampoo. Also, I was using various shampoos from Target and other stores, and after switching to Lush shampoos, my piercing bumps started to go away. Perhaps the natural ingredients helped with my piercings? HOWEVER, I did slip and use a shampoo received from FabFitFun and now my newest conch piercing has a dreaded bump.
My New Favorite Lush Conditioner
A friend did introduce me to Glory. It’s advertised for curly and textured hair, but it works well for my straight and slightly wavy hair. Also, I find it funny how the conditioner and shampoo I really like are both green! The Glory smell might be not so pleasant for some people, but I really like it. The nature-y smell is relaxing and it doesn’t leave build up compared to some other Lush products I’ve tried in the past.
Pricey? Yeah…
It was definitely cheaper to buy shampoo and conditioner from the big box retail stores, but there is something about Lush’s naturalness and packaging or something that is appealing. The scents of the products (after finding the right ones) makes me feel better as well. I do like how I can use a little bit of the product which stretches the product to near when it’s best by. Lush products have a sticker that says when the product was made and when it’s good toward. Most products last for around / a bit over a year.
