Daith and Faux Rook Piercing Healing – Week 4 and Follow-up Appointment

My 5th post about my daith piercing healing journey. The other posts are below –

Week 3 / Beginning of Week 4

Fresh Daith Piercing

Daith Piercing Bumps

So it’s true… I formed bumps during week 4! I’m unsure if stuff got into it from not completely drying my ears or from sweat, or if I just super irritated it by sleeping on that side for a bit. Luckily I have my 4 week follow-up appointment for the piercer to check the 2 piercings – the faux rook (just confirmed that’s what my top piercing is called) and the daith. To save you the trouble of looking at 6 separate photos, below is one that combines the photos of my week 4.

The photos above are actually from one night. Angles are really important in photos as the bumps are bigger some and not as prominent in others.

Blood?

My faux rook piercing has been pretty great during week 4. The piercing has been spinning around a lot more often, but it wasn’t a bother. The bumps on my daith didn’t hurt, but I definitely did something since there was then some blood. I kept with the hair drying / drying my ears with the blow dryer after showers and doing the saline mist spray 2x a day.

Follow-up Appointment and Downsizing!

My 4 week piercing follow-up appointment on Friday, June 10 was probably the most exciting 15 minutes I had that day. The piercer said that everything looked normal and that my faux rook piercing was ready to be downsized. Downsizing a piercing is putting in a shorter bar so that it won’t move/spin around as much anymore. The part gets pierced with a longer bar to allow room for swelling. The downsizing process felt a bit interesting. The piercing area got cleaned first and then I felt some pressure as the piercer was working on removing the existing bar to put in a shorter bar. The BVLA jewelry on my faux rook is called an end, so if I wanted to switch that jewelry, I can at any time because it’s the bar that is in the hole and the gem/end is to be screwed into the bar. Pretty cool, right?

What about the Daith piercing healing bumps?

Perfectly normal. I was told they are not swelling bumps and that they should dry out and fall off eventually. That’s pretty cool! I just got to continue to LITHA – leave it the hell alone, and to dry them after each shower. The piercer told me to continue to do what I’ve been doing since everything looks normal.

More Good News

I asked when I can get more piercings on the same ear and I was told any time! The faux rook has been healing wonderfully and the daith looks normal, and my ear can take on some more piercings. I scheduled an ear curation appointment for a couple weeks after to look at more jewelry and what can work. My thoughts are helix and/or conch, but I night want to do the helix area first. I really want a hoop there, but I can’t put on a hoop until it fully heals, so I need to make sure the end/stud I pick would work. I know my ear anatomy isn’t right for some pieces I saw last time, but I’ll see if I can find something I really like next time. If I decide not to move forward with another piercing in a couple weeks, I definitely want to upgrade some of my lobe piercings!
