Fresh Helix Piercing + Daith and Faux Rook Piercing Update!

First of all, I’m still obsessed with BVLA jewelry. So much inspiration and so many pieces to choose from. Second of all, this is a continuation of my daith piercing healing journey below, and also a fresh helix piercing!

Fresh Daith Piercing

First Helix Piercing!

I got my first helix piercing on July 17! It was a quick pinch, noticeably painless in comparison to my faux rook piercing. There was one annoying part that I found out very shortly after getting pierced though – the helix piercing area can cause hair to easily get tangled/stuck! Oh no… that means putting my hair up a lot more often or at least the side so that the ear is exposed. It gets snagged way too easily when down or when I’m touching my hair when it is down, so up it goes. I’m typing this after a week getting pierced and the helix is doing quite well and acting as it’s supposed to act.

Swelling

The helix piercing started to swell middle of the first week. It doesn’t hurt as the bar used in the piercing is generous in length so that it has room to swell.

Irritated my Faux Rook Piercing

My faux rook was downsized a month beforehand, and it was very comfortable with the shorter bar. Unfortunately when the helix swelled a lot during the end of the first week, it swelled the faux rook area as well. There was so much pressure pushing against it that it started bleeding quite a bit. It didn’t hurt unless I touched it (yeah yeah, I know…), so I decided to ask my piercer about it.

Good Timing

My daughter decided to get her lobes pierced, so we scheduled an appointment for her piercing a week after I got my helix pierced. Since she was there to get hers pierced, I asked if I can upsize my faux rook. My piercer did that and it felt so much better! I’ll then get it re-downsized when my helix gets downsized.

Upgraded My Left Ear Lobe Jewelry Too!

So I initially wanted something longer and more angled for my helix, but my anatomy wouldn’t allow that. Something shorter and thinner worked and my piercer helped me choose the piece with purple-ish stones and a clear/milky stone to go well with my daith piercing. I decided to upgrade my lobes from studex jewelry to full on BVLA jewelry! Again, my piercer helped me find pieces that would go well together and small enough to fit on my lobes. We chose the tiny amity leaf, a round with purple stones (to go with my helix and daith), and a tri-cluster. So pretty, right?

Angles Matter – My Daith Wasn’t in a Good Place

My daith piercing bump was getting bigger during my last update, and unfortunately, it didn’t go away. It was pretty big while I was in Vegas, but it started to calm down shortly afterwards. My piercer was a bit concerned as he was cleaning my ear for my helix piercing and said we’d take another look when I get my helix downsized to see if anything needs to be done with the daith. You can barely see issues with the daith in the above photo because of the angles. Below are more.

Bump Starting to Heal

The above photo was a day or 2 after my fresh helix piercing. There was dried blood as expected, but no pain or anything. My daith bumps started to get smaller! Funny how I saw significant healing after getting another piercing.

Helix Healing the First Week

Not bad at all! It was scary taking showers because I was afraid I’d really snag my hair against the helix piercing, but I was careful. Spraying the saline spray causes the dry blood to drip out, which can look a bit alarming, but it wasn’t. Very normal!

What’s Next?

This is it for the next several months. I’m contemplating a tragus or a conch (or both!) for this ear to complete it, but I’m really scared of those piercings and how they would go with my daith. I’m excited to use chains on my faux rook and helix piercings when they heal completely, and even a hoop on my helix. I love the hoops look!
