How My Gordon Ramsay Steak Experience Deteriorated

Experience in 2017 and 2022

I’ve been a longtime Gordon Ramsay fan, and I first tried his restaurants back in 2017; some friends and I tried them all back then and we make an effort to go to at least one of them during our Vegas trips. Unfortunately, my recent experience was rather frustrating, notably with the service and the wait time.

What Happened to the Bread??

Couple photos below. The first couple times we tried Gordon Ramsay steak, there was a plate of bread that contained many types. The recent time when we brought other people with us had disappointing tasting bread. The butter was good though!

The various types of bread the past several times, pre-2022. This “free” bread was so good, many varieties.
The current bread. A couple types baked into the really pretty roll. Presentation was nice, but taste was meh. At least the butter was really good.

Why Bother Having a Reservation When You Wait 20+ More Mins?

Party of 7, made a reservation well in advanced for Sunday night. We arrive a few minutes early and they tell us to stand to the side while they set up the table. 5 minutes later, another group of 7 comes by, and they also had to wait for a bit, but they were guided in and seated before us. I ask what was going on since we were here before them and were still waiting, and the hostesses were talking to each other pointing to the seating screens and told us they’re still setting up our table. For real? The other table started to set up after ours was and was done within a couple minutes? I call BS on that. If their reservation was earlier than ours, why should we be punished for showing up on time and they showed up late? Super frustrated!

This is the steak rack where they’d explain what the different cuts were. The photo was from sometime between 2017 - 2019, forgot which visit in particular. We didn’t get an explanation this time around. No biggie, but would have been nice for those with us that haven’t dined here before to see.

Seated in a Gray Room

The other times we dined at Gordon Ramsay Steak had more of a view. This time, we were seated in a room with a few other larger parties, surrounded with gray walls. It seemed private, except it wasn’t. Nothing interesting to look at other than a painting of Gordon himself. What a shame… but perhaps they don’t do 5+ or 6+ in the main dining area where you can see a lot more?

Time Constraints

Our server asked us if we had any time constraints, and we said yes. After the initial wait past our reservation time, our dining time was cut short. We said within 2 hours, and he said OK. I then ask if we can place in our order now, and he said no and said something about needing to get everyone’s order and walked away. We were going to do family style. Ugh, more frustration. Anyways, when we were finally able to order, he wanted to start with my friend’s dad, but I told him I’d say everything we’d want and we’d do family style. So here comes some photos and further of my Gordon Ramsay steak review.

Look how amazing they cut this for us. This was a few years ago; they were super considerate and nice. They offered to do this so it’d look nice and we wouldn’t have to mess with it ourselves.
This is the beef Wellington (signature!) in 2022. We ordered 2 orders of these. Photo just shows 1 order. $75 as of October 2022. We cut it ourselves this time. No offer to cut into slices for us.

Slider Math

Gordon Ramsay’s American Wagyu Sliders (cracked pepper brioche, shallots, truffle cheese sauce, arugula (extra slider $10)) is on the menu for $23.95. Since there was the add extra slider for $10 portion, we asked for 7 sliders in total and how many additions that’d be. Our server seemed confused and then we asked how many sliders are in each order. Then he told us we’d order 3 orders and add one slider. So that means 2 slides in one order. Too bad it wasn’t one order and we add 5 sliders then. Bling bling huh.

These were the sliders back from a few years ago. So good. It comes with a pickle on top and something on the side.
These were the sliders in 2022. Different form of pickle on top and nothing on the side. Oh no, shrinkflation??

The Long Wait for Food

We ordered and the food didn’t come out until an hour afterwards! Tables that ordered drinks were served fairly quickly. Everyone at the table was a bit frustrated since none of us expected this type of wait. Even Gordon yells at the cooks in the shows if tables have been waiting for a long time. No apologies re the wait, but our waters were refilled often.

This is part of our Gordon Ramsay Steak meal back in 2019. The hamachi crudo is on the top, above the oysters. Look at how many sections there are here.
Hamachi crudo in 2022. It seemed that there’s less now than 3 years ago. More Shrinkflation!

No Guidance

We were at brunch earlier this date and the server at that place asked if we wanted to add on more pieces so that everyone at the table gets to try one. That was so thoughtful of them. We said yes, and it worked out well. I wish I can say the same about this 2022 Gordon Ramsay Steak experience. I had to ask about the sliders and how many there were. They didn’t offer if I wanted to get enough so everyone gets one. We ordered the hamachi crudo because I remembered it to be very delicious, and they didn’t even say it comes with 5 lil sections, not enough for the 7 of us.

Hudson Valley Foie Gras - $29.95 - caramelized orange brioche, smoked granola, grand marnier reduction. Mushy bread, mediocre foie gras. Foie gras can be so delicious, but somehow this one was a miss. We ended up cutting this into 7 or 8 pieces, and not a lot of people enjoyed it unfortunately. The textures were a bit uneven - I’d get mild smoothness and then a chunk of fat. It should be really smooth, melt in your mouth, right?
Diver Scallops & Summer Corn Risotto - 54.95 -Truffled corn pudding, pancetta, corn shoots, midnight moon goats’ cheese, tomato dolce. Pretty good scallops and risotto. I don’t think the person that wanted this liked it as much as originally thought she’d like it cause not much of it was taken; however, my friend’s dad really liked it so this one didn’t go to waste. There were some citrus elements to it too.
Caesar Salad - $19.95 - crisp romaine hearts, parmesan cheese, garlic croutons, scotch quail egg. It looks kind of sad and sparse for a salad! I didn’t try any of this, but my friend said the crouton was really good, much much better than the bread! The scotch quail egg sounds really interesting, but unfortunately, I didn’t get to try it. I didn’t hear any rave about it either, so… I dunno.

Why So Inconsistent? No Offering of the Tasting Menu?

Some of the comparison photos above showing same dishes ordered from 2017 – 2019 compared to 2022 are noticeable. Another thing was that this time around, we weren’t offered the tasting menu. The tasting menu was posted to the website / a part of a menu on the Gordon Ramsay Steak website. It would have been nice for those that haven’t been here to see the tasting menu because it has a photo of Gordon on it. In the past, we got to keep the menu with Gordon’s signature if we opt’d for that, but no offer this time around.

Smoked Beef Tartare - $27.95 - truffle egg emulsion, coriander vinaigrette, manchego, yukon gold potato chips. This beef tartare does have a nice smoky flavor, but it isn’t one of those tartares that you’d want more and more of. The chips were highly inconsistent as well. Some were crunchy, others were not, and others just seemed a bit stale. What’s up with that?

Further Prior Experience Photos Below / Worth it?

See below for some photos from my Gordon Ramsay Steak experiences from 2017 – 2019 that wasn’t quite posted above within the comparison photos. It was so much better than; my experience this time was so frustrating because of the wait times and lack of communication/guidance, especially since it was the majority of our party’s first time there. I’d go to Gordon’s other establishments, but now I can have a complete Vegas trip without going. I’ll need to take a further break from this restaurant though since I can’t justify the $500 bill for the service and wait received. Food was good, but not exceptional. Some things were left to be remembered; the quality seemed better years ago as well.
