Hoka Recovery Slides – New Pair of Sandals

My left foot has been bothering me a bit on and off (mostly on) since mid-December, so I finally went to see a podiatrist to see what is going on with that area. It hurt when pressure from nearly any direction is placed, and it was rather sensitive, even with a small touch. It would also randomly cramp up, and there would be a lot of little cracking noises from time to time as well. I was extremely disappointed because I was just noticing significant improvement on the tread blocks during OTF, and with this pain/possible fracture, I wasn’t able to zoom zoom on the treads.

The Podiatrist Visit

Got there, filled out the paperwork, etc. The assistant took a few X-rays of my feet, a few of my left and one of my right. The actual podiatrist went over the X-rays with me and looked at my shoes and my feet. I had my Hoka Clifton 9’s (all black) on and he said it was a great shoe (thank you friend!) because of how the top part curves upward and it isn’t flat (I forgot the terminology used).

Loss of Cartilage

The big toe ball of foot area has been swollen for a while, and based on the X-rays, it turns out that I have some kind of arthritis on that area. Surprisingly, it looked worse on my right foot, but I felt no pain there – just the left. Weird. My bones there have been grinding against each other (ouch). I was told there is no cure for it, but there are things I can do to make it not get worse faster. Those include wearing special shoes inside and using orthotics for other shoes outside and such…

My left toe area wasn’t able to bend as well. I cannot do lunges or anything the requires good bending of that area unfortunately… hoping to get better soon, but if it’s truly from loss of cartilage, then I’m screwed!

Hoka Recovery Slides

He recommended Hoka Recovery Slides and a type of orthotics until custom ones are made for me. I was given a flyer and the products recommended were circled, so I went to that shoe specialty store to check out the products. The brand is technically Hoka One One, and I learned One One was pronounced “o-nay o-nay” and not the number one. Whoops. The person that helped me out asked for my shoe size and then handed me a black pair of the Hoka recovery slides.

First Impressions

Holy crap, these Hoka recovery slides felt AMAZING!!! Sold. Bought everything recommended for me, got a 10% discount. Win win.

I have the black ones since that was what the store has, but the Hoka website has so many colors in these slides!!! DO I BUY MORE???

Sweaty Feet

The Hoka recovery slides felt amazing, and I enjoyed wearing them. Though that evening, they started to get just a little uncomfortable because my feet started to sweat quite a bit. Ugh, heat trap? Or my feet just sweat naturally like that? Argh…

More Colors

There are so many colors of these Hoka recovery slides on the Hoka website! Perhaps I shall buy a couple pairs in different colors so I have options – one for wearing around the house and others to wear out cause they beat wearing “normal” shoes at times!

Overall Thoughts

Pretty happy with this purchase. I can wear very thin socks with these around the house to avoid that sweat sticky feeling, but these are pretty comfortable slides over all. Definitely more comfortable than other slides I’ve owned. I’ve just had these for a week and a half, so I can’t say much from experience re whether these last long.
