Stitch Fix – Review and Thoughts!
My Intro to Stitch Fix
I was introduced to Stitch Fix last month by a great friend, and she inspired me to try it out. I’ve heard of the concept before – save time shopping by having clothing sent to you to try on, buy which pieces you want, and return the rest. I tried it out for a couple boxes, and it’s rather addictive! Unfortunately (or fortunately) for me, the petite sized clothing is a bit limited, and stylists had a hard time sending me good outfits to try. Clothing is sent to you depending on your style profile, and you can select what types of sizes you normally wear, and whether you’re looking for petite, maternity, plus, etc. I definitely chose petite in hopes that things will fit perfectly on me.
Free $25 to Try
If you want to try Stitch Fix, please try with my referral link –https://www.stitchfix.com/invite/xdgjfcnk9j?sod=w&som=c. Click or copy/paste. This will give you $25 that practically covers you to try on one box (or 2, depending on whether they waive a fee if you end up returning everything in your first box). Free returns!
How It Works
- Click on link above or here to get started.
- Take your styling quiz. They have women’s, men’s, and kids clothing!
- Continue answering the questions to your preferences and choose a date to receive your first box. Your order total should be $0.00, but you’ll need to put in a Payment method. You’ll only be charged after choosing items to keep upon checkout and other purchases, including potential subsequent boxes. Make sure you check your emails to create a password to login next time if you do choose to proceed with trying a box!
- Wait for your box to arrive. When it arrives, it should have papers with inspiration to pair the clothing selected for you, a note from your stylist, the clothing, and a return envelope.
- Try on the clothing (or accessories) and decide what you want to keep. Decide quick, and then go onto your account and proceed with the check-out process. You’ll need to return your items within 3 days from receiving, so don’t be late!
- Check-out Process – Select Keep, Exchange (different size or something), or Return, for each of the items you received.
- Review your order and check-out. The $25 credit will apply if you choose to buy something. $20 of it went to the “styling fee,” but it transfers over as part of your credit if you keep something. You just lose the “styling fee” if you return everything. You’ll get a 25% discount if you keep everything.
- Place all the items you want to return in the prepaid envelope and take it to a USPS to scan and keep the receipt for safekeeping.
Notes
The first box (using my link) will be $0.00 for you to try. Your credit may say $5.00 Remaining because $20 of it went toward a styling fee. If you do choose to purchase at least 1 item from your box, the full $25 credit is available to make the purchase, and you’ll pay the difference. There are times where some users may have their styling fee to their second box waived, so enjoy that if you get that option after checking out of your first box!
My Experience – 1st Box (2nd Box will be Much more Detailed)
I’ve tried 2 boxes, and have an on-demand subscription instead of a scheduled (every x months) subscription, I did not get to take detailed pics of my first box because I saw the box coming home partially under the influence, so I rushed through trying on and the checkout process. I wasn’t too thrilled with the items I received, other than they were all petite sizing. The tops were a bit too thin to my liking that my rings could snag and rip the tops easily. I did keep one top though – a Daniel Rainn petite top. It matched with my hair! My first box consisted of all tops and a pair of earrings. I made sure to put a note to include pants or something that would be a seemingly complete outfit for my second box.
Second Box – More Detailed
I was a bit disappointed with my first box, and I got a notification that my styling fee will be waived if I placed an order to try another box, so I did.
Option to View Contents of Box Before Arrival
I don’t mind spoilers, and I have very little patience when it comes to certain things. Stitch Fix lets you know when a box has shipped. The account page will then give you an option to “check out,” and you can see the items you’ll be trying on by clicking on checkout, but don’t actually check out until ready.
Thoughts
Well, hey, look at that… they’re including a pair of bottoms to my second box! Honestly, I was rather disappointed when I saw the contents of my second box. I was tempted to ask Customer Service to un-ship my box because I thought they were going to be all return items because everything looked so ordinary and certain items were extremely expensive for what I thought was worth. The biggest example is that white Rag & Bone V-neck Knit Top. $155 for something like that?? You gotta be kidding me! Everything else in the box was much cheaper, thank goodness.
Box Arrival!
The box finally arrived. It arrived a day late, but Stitch Fix tracks this too so the check-out date is based on when the box is marked as Delivered.
Further Thoughts
Each piece is kind of “bleh,” but it looks rather nice when it’s placed all together. The note from my stylist mentioned there are very limited options for petite bottoms, but was able to include a pair of Just Black jeans and tops that may go with it. I appreciated the layering necklace. It’s actually a nice necklace, but it didn’t sit on my neck completely symmetrically.
See Above – What I Received to Try
See above image accordion for what I received. I didn’t think I would like the jeans based on the image alone, but once I tried them on, I decided I would keep the jeans because it fit so well! The green top with textured sleeves was good, but a bit too pricey for what it is. The other 2 tops were hard passes.
Checked Out
I placed the rest of the items- all the tops and the necklace, into the return envelope. The envelope is pre-paid, so all I had to do was go to a USPS location and ask them to scan and give me a receipt. The checkout process on the Stitch Fix website is neat too. It asks if you’ll keep/exchange/return an item and then your general feedback on the items. Any credits will be applied and your payment method will be charged depending on what you purchase/keep. You’ll then have an option to schedule another “fix.” I decided not to, but this is one of those things that is rather addicting! If money and closet space weren’t issues for me, I’d be getting regular dosages of Stitch Fix, Trunk Club, and many more services!
Styling Ideas/Inspiration
Above image includes the top I kept from my first fix and the styling suggestions/ideas from both my fixes. I appreciate these cards because it’s rather interesting to see what Stitch Fix would pair various items with.
Great Resource
Stitch Fix does tend to provide great resources in regards to shopping and style. They have a blog that talks about clothing for various body types, and their website is pretty fun. There are quizzes re your styles, including quizzes where they show you a clothing item or set and you rate it a thumbs up or thumbs down. They are also transparent re their brands, which inspired me to look up some of the brands for any future individual-item shopping needs.
Example Above
See example above. The Lulu Embroidered Short was recommended to me in my suggested Shop on Stitch Fix. $78 is a bit much I’d spend on a pair of shorts, but I really like those floral embroidered shorts! I looked up the brand, Driftwood, and saw they had some items on Saks off 5th for a fraction of the price! Yes, I totally ordered a pair of those Daisy-Embroidered Denim Shorts for close to half the price. To Stitch Fix’s defense, they would price match if the brand or another retailer sells the same item for a lower price.
Further Thoughts
Stitch Fix shows a lot of great styling inspiration on their site, but unfortunately for me, it doesn’t seem their sizes match too much with what I want to wear and what is available in their inventory. Perhaps non-petite, maternity, plus, mens, and kids fixes are more promising.
Shop Your Looks Page
Stitch Fix has a shop your looks page where you can click on individual pieces of clothing and it’ll take you to a page to purchase that item. I think it’s based on what sizes they have available because I’ve seen some pages where the outfits look rather different, with more options day to day. My shop your looks page contained the same Lilly Pulitzer dresses for days! They don’t know this, but I have enough Lilly dresses in my closet because I spent more than I should at a Lilly store when I was living on the East Coast, so I don’t need another Lilly dress. Just another example how Stitch Fix services may be better for you than for me.
Again?
I am very tempted to get another fix in the near future because of the curiosity element and how fun the process is, despite my disappointing boxes. Inventory may change per season, and I am curious to see if they’ll send me any jackets, skirts, dresses, and so forth. If they do, hopefully it won’t be one of those blue Lilly dresses, lol!
