Trader Joe’s Kalua Pork Spring Rolls Review – Reminded me of Hot Dogs!

It’s nice to make semi-weekly trips to Trader Joe’s again, and I’m definitely behind on trying their new stuff. They released their kalua pork spring rolls a couple months ago or so, and I’m just trying them out now.

Overall Packaging and Look

A Hawaiian inspired spring roll with smoke flavored pork and vegetables is what it says on the package, and that sounds rather delicious! I love good spring rolls, so I decided to try this. The packaging wasn’t special, but they did make the spring rolls look good and the description sold me.

Right out of its package, before going into the oven.

Contents

Just 4 spring rolls, so they’re around over a dollar each. The package cost close to $5! Alright, my expectations are getting higher here.

Nutrition and Such

One serving is 2 spring rolls, but that isn’t that filling. The whole 4 spring rolls in here contain 570 Calories with 27g fat, 67g carbs, and 16g protein. Common allergens include milk, soy, wheat, and coconut.

Directions

Pretty simple – preheat oven to 400F and bake them for 17 – 20 minutes, or until it reaches 165F in the center. I just baked mine for 20 mins and didn’t check the temperature.

Taste and Texture

Big fan of the crispy outside, but not too much of the mushy-ish insides. Some pieces contained nearly no pork and others definitely had some meat. These definitely smelled like HOT DOGS while baking, which was kind of funny. They didn’t taste like hot dogs though, thankfully.

Worth It?

Ehh.. I don’t think I’ll get these again anytime soon. Glad I tried these, but the inconsistency bothers me. These could use some kind of dipping sauce or a hot sauce, so it was a bit disappointing that these didn’t come with.
