October 10, 2021/Comments Off on Trader Joe’s Thai Chilies & Sesame Seeds -Chili Skin Overload!
I saw Trader Joe’s Thai Chilies Sesame Seeds earlier this month and I had to get it! Somehow I thought it would be similar to their crispy jalapeno pieces, but they aren’t in so many ways.
What Are TJ’s Thai Chilies Sesame Seeds?
A crispy, savory, spicy Thai snack! Thai chilies are common in various dishes and they add on a lot of great flavor. I absolutely love spicy food, so I thought I’d like these. The flavor is OK, but most of the texture is a bit off. There are quite a bit of the chili shells portions and some portions that contain clusters of sesame seeds and such.
Packaging and Looks
It comes in a bag, and above are its contents. Pretty close as advertised in terms of the photo… quite impressed. The chilies portions are in various sizes, with most of them a bit on the longer side.
Taste and Texture
The taste is alright… it does have the spiciness and they do taste like Thai chilies and sesame seeds, but a lot of the chilies portions are very hallow that it’s just like eating Thai chili skins. Ugh. The feeling of that thin stuff getting stuck in the throat is just bleh. There are more flavorful clusters that are decent. They mostly contain sesame seeds and possibly some of the chilies’ insides. Those skins though… no thanks.
Nutrition and Such
There are 3 servings in each package, and each serving is at 180 Calories. That consists of 14g fat, 9g carbs, and 3g protein. Major allergens include soy and wheat (and sesame). The bottom right photo is the suggested serving…
Suggested Serving
The package suggests that these be enjoyed alone. Ugh, those chili skins though? I rather not. The sesame clusters, sure. Perhaps these can also be a topping as the crispy jalapeno bits, or even mixed in with some fried rice. That might soften the chili skin portion.
Would I Buy Again?
Nah, not worth it to me. I appreciate the bit of spice, but the texture / chilies’ skin portion was a huge turnoff for me.
