Shoshanna Dress Review – Part of an Anthropologie Haul!
It’s that time close to the end of summer where I tend to buy more than I should from Anthropologie. Their spring and summer dresses start to go on sale and I love when there are some that I like in my size.
Why Shoshanna?
I’ve never heard of the Shoshanna brand before seeing a dress from them on Anthropologie’s website. It turns out that Shoshanna dresses are quite pricey – hundreds of dollars! There was a cute yellow one – their Shoshanna Smocked Flutter-Sleeve Dress that was originally priced at $410 (ouch) and it was on sale with an additional 30% off. I need a dress for another Vegas trip coming up, so I added this one to the cart to try on when received. Now let’s begin my Shoshanna dress review!
First Impressions
No pockets, would not pay $400+ for the dress. Material is rather thin, but there is a good amount of sparkle to the dress. It can be dressed up or down, which is nice. I love the V neck portion of the dress.
The Fit
Not bad – great length for me since I’m petite and this is more of a mini dress. Sleeves and everything seem to fit nicely. See the header photo – I love how it does that with the shoulders! This is also an easy slip on dress too.
Anthro’s About the Dress before More Pics

- Shoshanna – A born-and-bred Manhattanite, Shoshanna Gruss studied art history before pursuing her passion for design full-time. Her dedication to flattering silhouettes and a penchant for whimsical details have made her a mainstay in the industry since the debut of her first dress collection in 1998.
The Waist Portion
I’m short, so my waist is most likely shorter than average so that portion is a bit long for my waist. It still feels fine though, hence the fit felt great for me.
OMG, it’s See-Through!!
I really wanted to like this dress and write a great Shoshanna dress review, but I can’t get past how see through it is.
Not Great for Low Maintenance
When I wear dresses, I just wear the dress over my bra and underwear. I don’t bother with whatever undergarments other than that stuff, so after seeing how see through this dress is without putting on another layer under the dress (it has a lining too!!), I decided I was going to try to return the dress.
Overall Thoughts
Not worth it for me, but perhaps I’ll fall in love with a Shoshanna dress in the future that I’d be happy to keep. The design and shape of this dress is gorgeous, but it was a bit itchy for me and the sheer-ness/see-through portion bothered me too much.
