Trader Joe’s Lemon Ice Cream – When Life Give You Lemons, Make Lemon Ice Cream!
I don’t recall having actual lemon ice cream in the past as most lemon frozen desserts I’ve tried were a sorbet style kind. Anyways, Trader Joe’s came out with their lemon ice cream a while ago, and I finally got to try it! It has fun colors – yellow and green, and a fun saying of, “when life gives you lemons, make lemon ice cream.” Sold!
Lemon Ice Cream is More Than Lemons
The description is lemon ice cream with a lemon swirl and shortbread cookie bits. Honestly, I’m not too fond of many lemon desserts because I developed an aversion toward some citrus-y stuff during my first pregnancy, and most of it hasn’t gone away. I probably would have skipped this lemon ice cream if it weren’t for the shortbread bits. The lemon swirl would give this dessert a tart flavor through the ice cream, and the shortbread would add more toward the texture and perhaps soften the tartness from the lemon swirl.
Nutrition and Such
Each pint of these contains 3 servings, and each serving contains 300 Calories with 15g fat, 38g carbs, and 4g protein. How is one serving 300 Calories? That seems high in comparison to other ice creams, does it? Anyways, it seems that it’s one of those things that sounds healthier (lemons), but it’s not at all, just as carrot cake. Carrot cake sounds healthy because of “carrot,” but I think I heard that it contains more bad stuff than other cakes.
Taste and Texture
Surprisingly this ice cream doesn’t taste way too sweet. I suppose all that sugar counteracts the lemon sour portions. The texture is rather smooth in a very pleasant way. If I really liked lemon, I’d really like this lemon ice cream. My favorite part was the shortbread pieces and it took so much self restraint not to pick through the whole pint to eat all the shortbread chunks.
Cookie Pairing
For some strange reason dispute my indifference or dislike toward lemon stuff, Girl Scout cookies Lemon-Ups are one of my favorites. I think it’s more of a texturally thing, but the lemon isn’t really strong. Anyways, those cookies go rather well with this ice cream!
Worth It?
Yeah, if you like lemon ice cream! The ice cream itself isn’t very lemon-y as the lemon flavor mostly comes from the swirl. Can I please get some without the swirl and some extra shortbread, please?
