Thinking about Piercings – Scared of Pain and Healing Process!

Soooo I signed up for a piercing consultation for Friday, the 13th. Pretty sure I took that day off of work, so I decided to ask about my ears on that day. I’d always love beautifully curated piercings on ears, but have been way too afraid myself to get anything other than lobe piercings done. I currently have 3 on each lobe, and I was scared getting those too!

My Piercing History

  • When I was 18 – went to a mall and got 2 done on each ear (lobes only)
  • I had trouble putting an earring back in and then the hole closed up, so I let all of them close up.
  • I got them re-pierced a couple years later. A friend and I (and my ex at the time) got our piercings at the mall… maybe not the best idea LOL.
  • The piercings weren’t really even unfortunately and I tried to get a third one at some point, but the lady said she couldn’t put a third one in. I was then 30 or 31 and asked someone else and the person (yep, at another mall) said it was possible and she pierced them.

Sensitive Ears?

Possibly. Many materials make my ears itch and a bit infected, so I don’t switch my earrings out often. They are high quality (and expensive) material or the stuff that was used to pierced… surgical steel or something? Not too sure, but I have a lot to learn.

Thoughts

I’ve been browsing on Reddit and there were several subreddits for piercings. So many nice curated ears, so I decided to look more into it. My piercings and my friend’s piercings were done with those piercing guns, and we learned that those were bad. No more mall piercings for us! I’ve been admiring daith piercings and there is a myth that they help a lot with migraines. I’m unsure if my ears have the proper anatomy for a daith piercing, hence I mustered the courage to sign up for a piercing consultant. It’s really hard for the introverted me!

Below is some Photos of inspiration from Lemonade Piercing.

My Fave Pieces

Ideally I’d get a daith and a double helix or a couple piercings around that area. The ear samples in the above photos look amazing! The ones with the chain and the subtle leaf designs are my faves. These jewelry pieces are by or from BVLA and it seems they only sell to selected piercing locations as I wasn’t able to find anything to add to cart directly from their site. I did go to a location in Vegas a few years ago, and they were quite pricey… but it’s lifetime guaranteed, right?

Other Thoughts

The conch piercing looks pretty nice too and it seems a lot of ears could pull that one off, but I read that the cartilage around that area is thicker. I’m really scared about this, but decided to take the plunge into getting a piercing consultation to see what is even possible. Perhaps my ears aren’t right for a daith or cartilage due to anatomy or sensitivity/reactivity of materials. What I do know is that this place is safe (one-time use supplies, etc.). It is pricey to get piercings, and based off my fears, I’d rather get it done at a reputable place that’s a bit pricier to limit the changes of my ears getting infected or having the piercings reject. There were some reddit posts about piercings having bumps and whatnot and people were commenting because the material wasn’t right.

Will I Go For It?

Honestly, I’m not sure. I’ll see what is possible and go by that. Ideally my ears will take it well and whatnot. I’m willing to give up earbuds for a nice daith piercing! There are such beautiful jewelry pieces and I’m fairly certain that my ear will wear whatever it’s pierced into it for a long time, so hopefully the initial piece of piercing jewelry will be rather cute! Will report back after my piercing consultation on… Friday the 13th! So expect another post from me re piercings after that.
