Some of my Recent Bay Area Food Adventures!

I’ve written about several more higher end restaurants, mostly Omakase spots such as The Shota and Akiko’s, but with inspiration from Beyond the Creek, here are some of my favorite more local spots I’ve tried the past several months. Can you tell I love sushi? Pictures galore, enjoy my pics and caption descriptions.

Toyosu - Walnut Creek. I went here for lunch and got their Hokkaido Don, which included salmon sashimi, some uni, and roe over a bed of rice. The cuts were really generous and it was super delicious. Pricey, but the quality is pretty good. They have some premium nigiri, such as wagyu with caviar, and I hope to go back to try that another time!
Dumpling Hours - Walnut Creek. I've dined at Ding Tai Fung quite often when I lived around LA, and I haven't had good soup dumplings in the Bay Area until now. These pork soup dumplings were really good and I'm so excited I have a spot to go to for these around here.
Dumpling Hours - Walnut Creek. I just had to share these! These are also pork soup dumplings, but with a different outer layer. It's much thicker and there is the pan fried crispy part on the bottom. These are super nice to look at and the insides are really tasty, but I think I prefer the traditional soup dumplings (photo before this one) much more.
B44 / Cafe Bastille - SF. OK, not Walnut Creek, but I need to share these mussels. I haven't had good mussels in a while since I don't typically order these. No one in my household enjoys them, so I ordered these during a work lunch!
Coqueta - SF. One of my fave small plates spots in the city! They have amazing variations of gin n tonics (my fave kind of cocktail), and though the small plates are pricey, they are delicious! Casual atmosphere. I love meats and cheeses and some fried calamari!
RnR Sushi & Bowls - Piedmont. Holy moly, this really is the Cheesecake Factory of this type of cuisine! Over $20 for a poke bowl, but it is HUGE. The value doesn't look good on the menu, but once you see the size of the portions, that'll really change your mind as it did for me. It was all really tasty too.
RnR Sushi & Bowls - Piedmont/Oakland. These are their dragon balls - spicy tuna stuffed mushrooms. OMG, SO GOOD. I'd be satisfied with just this appetizer here because it was decently sized and very tasty.
Lokanta - Walnut Creek. I really enjoy gyros, so I tried their wrap. I'm more of a kebob person or something else, but somehow everything a la carte would just add up to be too much so I settled for this gyros wrap lunch special and the calamari appetizer. The wrap was pretty good!
Tatsu Sushi - Walnut Creek. I tend to go for some kind of chirashi variation when I try a new sushi spot. After having some higher end stuff, this one was just OK. Their cooked appetizers (stuffed spicy tuna jalapeno poppers) were AMAZING so I'll definitely get more of those next time. I heard their rolls were better so I'll get that next time as well instead of focusing on the raw fish stuff.
Va de Vi - Walnut Creek. Outdoor dining at 90+ degree weather didn't feel too bad with lots of iced water and shade. I love burrata, but my husband doesn't, so this was mostly all for me. We tried some other stuff - chicken, burger, etc, and the food was pretty good. The outdoor area was nice and I'd totally bring my friends here for wine and small plates.
Capullo Cocina - Walnut Creek. Birria Tacos! Delicious. Not the best place for these because food here is on the pricier side since it's more of a sit down and have some drinks kind of place, but I was glad to try these.

Recap of my Mainly Walnut Creek Foods

Yum yum! I’d really be dining out or ordering takeout for every meal if I could afford it. I love food and thank you for letting me share some of my food photos!
