Zingerman’s Bread – Mail Order Review

I’ve never heard of Zingerman’s until I received a package from them. One of the boss people in our headquarters office gifted me a couple loaves of bread from Zingermans – apparently a well known deli and originated in Ann Arbor, MI. They appear to be a deli and they also ship food stuff, including breads as well. Let’s take a look at what I received!

The Zingerman’s bread mail order packaging. It says OPEN IMMEDIATELY. I was at work in the office at the time, so my husband saw it and opened it up.

So the above is the packaging. I was gifted 2 loaves of bread, and the packaging says open immediately, but there wasn’t any dry ice or frozen stuff in there. I was at work, and my husband saw the package and saw “open immediately” and he opened it immediately. He texted me and mentioned that it really didn’t need to be opened immediately because instructions inside said to leave on counter or freeze.

Nicely Packaged Loaves, Notably the Labeling!

Each loaf came in separate bags, and there are directions printed directly on the paper bags. I loved how fun these bags were as they included tips and contained specific directions. Very easy to follow!  The bread labels are also here so you’ll know what ingredients are in these breads.

Breads Received

I was gifted the following breads –

  • Cherry Chocolate Bread – Belgian and French chocolate plus dozens of dried Michigan cherries in a dense delicious loaf. Great for dessert with a scoop of vanilla gelato.
  • Pecan Raisin Bread – A half pound of big juicy Red Flame raisins and pecans in every loaf. Firm dense and delicious.
Oh no, a hole in the bag! It’s still good. Sounds like these breads can withstand being out in the open for a while because of the crispy crust and dense interior.

Digging into the Chocolate Cherry Bread

We turned on the oven and baked the chocolate cherry bread per its directions and it smelled really good! The bread was really dense, and it looked really nice. I suppose it’s perfect for a treat or for guests as well. Definitely not a healthy bread since it was really packed with chocolate in each bite.

After baking. Look how good it looks!

Chocolate Cherry – Zingerman’s Bread Review

This bread is quite fun! It made our place smell so good while heating up in the oven and I love how sturdy it is. The smell immediately made me think of some kind of savory cake and how great it would be with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or what they say, gelato. The denseness of the loaf and the creaminess of the ice cream or gelato would be an amazing combo. Serve it on a nice plate and give it a good presentation and it can be a nice dessert somewhere. The taste is fairly rich as it isn’t some normal bread. These supposedly go for $20 a loaf at the time I’m writing this, so it better be a really good bread! Less typical bread-like, but more so of a pastry. Rich, delicious, gotta not eat the entire loaf in one sitting.

The inside of the chocolate cherry bread. Lots of toppings in there so it’s great that they don’t skimp out. Perhaps it is worth what it costs because of the quantity of premium ingredients.

Would I Personally Order?

I’m so thankful that I received these as a gift as it gave me exposure to something new and to try something new as well. As someone working to support my whole family, I’m really appreciative when it comes to receiving gifts. It’s really something that I’m not used to as I’m more used to providing, but just being thought of and receiving something so interesting feels pretty good too.

I’m not too sure if I’ll personally order for myself because there are a lot of local spots near me and my mail order experiences haven’t been the best. They do have a “better than SF” sourdough on their website (see header photo pic above), so I’m like HMMMMM…. Is that a dig to the Bay Area? My home town! I am curious of their sourdough since our sourdough here is pretty darn good!
