Oribe’s Hair Alchemy Resilience Conditioner & 1.5 Month Balayage Update!

My hair had a balayage mid-April, and I blogged about it last month. It’s been around 1.5 months since, so here are my updates and what I’ve learned about the process.

Some Highlights

  • It looks the best in the salon. The first wash after “messes” it all up, so work/effort is needed to make it look good again.
  • Color fades rather quickly, so that’s why people would go in every so often to get another treatment or get some more toner to bring the color back to life.
  • Everyone’s hair is different so a highly rated product that works on someone really well might not work on you and vice versa.
  • I want to go lighter!!
  • It’s recommended not to wash your hair as often because the color/look fades within each wash subtlety, and that takes some time to get used to.

That First Wash

My hair looked pretty damn good right after it was colored, and I was nervous to wash it. I’m used to washing my hair every other day, but with colored hair, I had to try to not wash it that often. That means using a shower cap on days I shower and don’t wash my hair, and investing in some products.  Anyways, I lasted several days until I couldn’t take it anymore and washed my hair. It felt and looked like crap afterwards!

See how dry and frizzy it looks after naturally washing my colored hair for the first time!

Dry, Frizzy Chunky

LOL, looks so bad in comparison to before washing the hair. It was a bit difficult combing it as perhaps not all the product placed in my hair was fully washed out. Time for some hair products…

I really massaged the Oribe hair alchemy resilience condiment in my hair for over a minute, and my hair felt rather smooth! Here’s a photo of the back of it after trying that conditioner for several washes.

Better Further Washes

It looked and felt the worst after the first wash. I learned that if I were to go somewhere, I’d wash my hair the day before instead of the day of because it takes some time for the frizz and whatnot to settle down.

Oribe’s Hair Alchemy Resilience Conditioner

This is the conditioner that Krystelle recommended to me, and I’m so glad I bought it! It’s definitely the most expensive hair conditioner I’ve bought, and after using it a few times, my hair doesn’t look as shitty after washing it. See the difference between the photos above. The shampoo I’ve been using doesn’t feel moisturizing the hair, but using this hair alchemy conditioner was a game changer. My fingers ran through my hair so easily with this conditioner and I made sure I massaged my hair with it for over a minute so that it “repairs” the damage from all the chemicals used to lighten my hair.

A bit over a month afterwards. My hair grows rather fast so I’m 100% getting a haircut next time.

Other Products

I thought I’d need to use purple shampoo, so I’ve been using an Olaplex purple shampoo that I got in my FFF summer box, but since my hair isn’t blonde, it wouldn’t do much. My travel size Oribe shampoo is in a separate bag that I’m taking to Vegas later this month to use, but I’ll probably invest in a full size Oribe shampoo since the conditioner worked so well. Or perhaps I’ll look for a blue shampoo? I’ve used Oribe’s gold lust hair oil as well and that helps with the frizz and keeps the hair soft, but for some reason, I’m more sensitive to that hair oil smell now compared to my post about that product

Looks pretty good from the front a month and a half in!

Still Low Maintenance

I still keep my hair straight, without using any straighteners or anything since I’m really lazy about that stuff. It does take some more time to go through my hair wash routine since I’m spending more time conditioning my hair and putting on the hair oil or a hair lotion afterwards. However, since I’m not washing my hair as often as before, I suppose that evens out.
